The Metals and Joining Center of Excellence requires a strong and commercially minded Leader to manage a team of specialist scientists, engineers and technicians who can re-engineer and develop existing and future braze alloy and joining solutions. The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the development and performance of the COE, developing the team into world leaders, adding significant credibility to the function both internally and externally with customers, leading research institutes and higher education facilities. 

The successful candidate will provide strong technology leadership and:

  • Ensure and promote the Morgan thinkSAFE and triple safe values and program through daily activities
  • Provide strategic direction and drive the braze alloy and joining businesses to be global leaders in this area
  • Collaborate with the business to create and manage Technology Roadmaps for the Braze alloy and joining businesses
  • Collaborate with other COE’s and development activities across Morgan
  • Bring forward R&D proposals to support the future prosperity of the business
  • Benchmark and define the important material characteristics in line with current customer needs and Morgan Advanced Materials' market strategy, controlling the material improvement projects to achieve this goal
  • Develop a culture of creativity and innovation at all levels
  • Develop the technical COE function and ensure the objectives of the organization and company growth schedules are met through continual development of the function and its role in the organization
  • Manage the process of developing materials platforms that are delivered to the business for advancement into products, ensuring engineering best practice is observed and costs controlled, and at all times work with a commercial thought process ensuring that the right decisions are made to ensure profitable growth for the future
  • Help build strategic alliances with partners on a global scale, partnering with the world’s leaders to ensure Morgan is at the forefront of technology
  • Take responsibility for the effective management of the COE and ensure its place in the group is deemed to be of paramount importance to the future of the business, by ensuring it is fit for purpose and continues to develop world leading technology
  • Effectively drive stage-gate process in the center to take projects from idea-to-launch 

Education and Experience

  • D. in metallurgy, ceramics, materials science, or related is required
  • Experience within the braze alloy and joining technology is strongly desired
  • Proven ability to motivate and manage technical personnel to gain and maintain a high level of drive
  • Project management skills
  • Experience in R&D portfolio management
